Power From James Bay


The entrance to LG2 underground power station. Can produce 5.616 gigawatts. Tunnel is just under 1km long going down steeply.

The massive invertor where the 450kv DC line from James Bay to Boston starts. Power from LG2, LG2A and LG1 generators arrives as 3phase 350 and 735kV lines.

Power from LG2, LG2-A and LG1 goes to the Radisson station where it is prepared for transport over long distances to the south.

First sight of the 450kv DC line between Radisson and Boston. Only 2 cnductors, one at -450kv and the other at +450kv.

The 450kv DC power line between Radisoon and Boston. (also makes a stop at Nicolet QC to serve that area. It was the first multi-hop DC high power line.

The LG1 Power station, only 1.426 gigawatts (more than enough to run the deLorean though :-) This station has minimal water drop, but handles the full flow of the La Grande river which also includes flow from diverted rivers such as Canapiscau, Opinaca, Eastman and now Rupert rivers.

The Rupert Rver, after 33% of its flow has been diverted north through a tunnel to join the Eastmain basin also diverted north, flowing through Eastmain 1 or 1A stations, La Sarcelle, into the Robert Bourassa Reservoir and then on the La Grande River through LG2 or LG2A and then LG1 stations.

What is left of the Eastmain river, once a majestic river, now down to a trickle. Its waters were diverted hundreds of km to the north into the Robert Bourassa reservoir which flows into the La Grande river.
